George Roter
Co-Founder & CEO, Engineers Without Borders

George became interested in international development while completing his Bachelor’s degree in engineering at the University of Waterloo. He quickly learned that technology could drive extraordinary change in the lives the poorest people in the world, and that the engineering community had not been tapped into as a resource. Together with Parker Mitchell, he co-founded Engineers Without Borders.
Two and a half years later, George is the co-CEO of Engineers Without Borders. He frequently gives talks at universities, conferences and to professional organizations across Canada and the United States. For his work with EWB, George has won awards from the Canadian Bureau for International Education (2002), the University of Waterloo (2000) and the City of Waterloo (2000). Additionally, he has been featured by TIME Magazine as one of Canada’s next generation of social leaders (2001), as well as appearing on television, radio and in numerous print publications across the country.
